History

1985

Starting My Career

After graduating with a business degree from McGill University, I began my career in the world by taking on a training position at Victoria and Grey Trust in the Town of Mount Royal (TMR). Starting out as a trainee, I worked diligently to learn the ropes, eventually moving into the role of mortgage manager.

1989

Venturing into Mortgage Brokerage

Together with a coworker and good friend Emilio Tamamaro, we decided to join SDR Mortgage Agency as brokers. At the time, there was no internet. My partner and I worked out of the SDR office located downtown. On a daily basis, we would run from one trust company or insurance company to another. Although Desjardins and other banks were also mortgage lenders, interest rates offered by insurance and trust companies were often much better, and only mortgage brokers knew where to find them.

1994

Founding Groupe Conseil Hypothèque GCH

After a few years, fax machines were introduced, and it was no longer necessary to be downtown to present our clients’ mortgage files. Along with four other partners, we decided to set up our own firm in Laval under the name Groupe Conseil Hypothèque GCH. In the following years, we worked evenings meeting clients in their homes and spent our days submitting mortgage applications to lenders, mostly by fax. Emilio, my best friend and business partner became a very well-known personality in the mortgage community in Québec, and it wasn’t long before he transitioned back to working directly with lenders, with more regular office hours.

1996

Launching Hypotheca

In collaboration with two new partners in Serge Morvan and Hugo Leroux we launched one of the largest independent mortgage firms in Quebec: Hypotheca. We saw a growing need for personalized mortgage solutions, offering clients access to a wide range of lenders and the best possible rates. Hypotheca quickly became known for its client-first approach and guiding homebuyers through the complexities of mortgage financing.

2021

Returning to My Roots

Post-COVID, and after 25 years as a partner while managing the Laval office with up to 40 mortgage brokers, I decided to step away from my administrative responsibilities as both a manager and co-proprietaire of Hypotheca. I have since returned to focusing solely on being a mortgage broker, serving my long-time clientele, which is what I enjoy most. It is a real pleasure to be part of the journey of first-time homebuyers. I also now have the opportunity to assist some of my older clients with products such as reverse mortgages. This allows homeowners with lower incomes but substantial equity to remain in their homes without the burden of monthly payments.
